Frequently Asked Questions

As a local leading service provider in Massachusetts, the TJK Plumbing, Heating & HVAC team is happy to share important information with our customers including providing answers to the following frequently asked questions:

+ Do you offer emergency or weekend service?

At this time we do not. The best we can do is get you on our next available time slot.

+ I have a clog in my sink/toilet. Can you come snake the line?

We refer all clogs to a drain company. They have longer snakes than what our plumbers carry in their vans and can also camera the line if needed. If you need a company to help you with that, contact us and we will refer you.

+ How often should my air filter be changed?

While every home is different, we recommend replacing every 6 months with high quality pleated filters.

+ When should my HVAC system be serviced?

Early Spring for the AC portion of the equipment and early fall for the heating portion.

+ How do I know when my water heater needs to be replaced?

Most water heaters last about 8 to 10 years. If you are having problems with brown water out of the hot side faucets or start to see any signs of leaks on the water heater it’s a good time to schedule a replacement.

+ Will a programmable thermostat really save me money?

Yes, you can save up to 10% a year. For example, in the winter if you set the thermostats program to a cooler temperature while you sleep or are away from home.

+ How can I reduce my energy costs?

High efficient equipment can greatly reduce your energy costs as well as routine maintenance to help keep your equipment running at peak performance.

+ How can I reduce allergens and improve the air quality in my house?

Changing your filters regularly with high quality MERV 8 or higher filters. We also recommended having an Ultraviolet purifier installed into your HVAC system.

+ What is that hissing noise coming from my toilet?

The fill valve is replenishing lost water from the tank, most likely caused by a failing flapper inside. It’s a minor issue and you can schedule a service call to have repaired.

+ Why does my tub spout and shower head constantly drip?

There is a spindle inside that probably needs to be replaced, turning the handle tighter may not be the best idea either as the handle may break.

+ Can I improve the low water pressure in my house?

Yes, if you have a well system it may be as simple as adjusting a pressure switch. If you have city water, a booster pump system can be installed to solve this issue.

+ What type of water filtration do I need for my house?

Whether you have city or well water, the best thing to do is have a water sample taken. We submit that to a lab that will provide a report on the water quality and from there we can determine what type of system will be best for your needs.

+ What type of rebates are available to me for new HVAC equipment?

You can visit masssave.com and click on rebates and incentives which you'll find all rebates available to you.

+ What do I do if I have leaking water from a pipe in my home?

The best thing to do is to turn the water off and schedule a service call. If you don't already know where the main water shut off is to your home, you should familiarize yourself in case of an emergency situation.
